Emergency Operations

This is the official site of the Berwyn Heights Emergency Response Team and CERT members. It is privately owned and donated to the Response Team and it's members. It is in no way connected with the government of the Town of Berwyn Heights Maryland and the government of Berwyn Heights is not liable for any content, errors or omissions.

The Berwyn Heights Emergency Operations Plan is overseen by the Emergency Preparedness Committee which is comprised of members of the Berwyn Heights Emergency Response Team and CERT members.  Their recommendations for updates and changes are presented to the council for concideration.

The plan itself outlines the various functions of town departments and council members during an emergency and is designed to give the mayor and council an understanding of operations and responsibilities during an emergency.  Each department, council member and the mayor have specific responsibilities to insure for contiuation of government, to relieve human suffering and to protect lives and property of the town and residents.

The Berwyn Heights Emergency Response team is comprised of citizen volunteers who will assist police, fire and town departments when requested.  The team is divided into two catagories, CERT trained responders, and support volunteers.

Our CERT members are capable of provide light search and rescue, medical attention, light fire suppression and more, where as our support volunteers are capable of establishing a temporary shelter, removing debris from roadways and providing other support services when needed.  The Emergency Response Team is the backbone of all Reponse and Recovery operations when professional first-responders are delayed for prolonged periods of time.
